Rainbow Village (jpg)The people of Taichung are still a bit surprised when people from all around the world come to visit Rainbow Village, but it is something special which comes with an interesting story, which you can read here. It’s not a big place, but with lots of colourful details.
And yes, “Rainbow Grandpa” was still there.

Shoujhen temple (jpg)Shoujhen temple (受鎮宮) is the largest temple in the Alishan National Scenic Area (阿里山國家風景區), and also the highest one in Taiwan, at 2150m (7054ft). The many details of the building are overwhelming, so I selected a picture which only includes a part of it, set in the scenic mountain range.

Alishan itself is one of the most popular destinations on the island, for locals and tourists alike.

Taichung Budokan Martial Arts Hall

Taichung Budokan Martial Arts Hall 1 (jpg)Thanks to our friend Meg, we got to see places in and around Taichung that other tourists will probably not get to see. On our final night she surprised us with this building from the Japanese colonial period, which is now a Budokan kendo.

The original wooden structure was built in 1912, had been demolished in 1930, and restorated a few years ago. As you can see from the enlarged clip below, a group was in training at that time.

We could not get in, but looked through all the windows.  :-)
